Explanation : 

കറുത്ത തേരിനെ 64 കള്ളികളിൽ എവിടെ വേണമെങ്കിലും വയ്ക്കാം. ബോർഡിലെ ഏതൊരു കള്ളിയിൽ നിന്നും ഒരു തെരിന് 15 കള്ളികളെ ആക്രമിക്കാം. അപ്പോൾ വെളുത്ത തേരിനെ ബാക്കി 49 കള്ളികളിൽ എവിടെയെങ്കിലും വയ്ക്കാം . അതായതു തേരുകളെ 64 * 49 = 3136 വ്യത്യസ്ത വിധങ്ങളിൽ വെയ്ക്കാം.

The black rook can be placed in any of the 64 squares. Once the black rook is placed, there are exactly 15 squares that it can attack. Therefore, the white rook can be placed in any of the remaining 49 squares. Hence there are 64*49=3136 different placements possible.

A rook can attack any piece (of opposite color) in the same row and column as it is. To ensure white rook doesn’t attack black or viceversa, they must not be in the same row or column.

Suppose one of the rooks is placed in any of the 64 squares in the chessboard, other rook cannot be placed in that same row or column eliminating 15 squares (7 in row, 7 in column and 1 where the first rook is placed). Means second rook has got only 64- 15 = 49 safe options.

Similarly the first rook can be placed in any of the 64 squares leaving 49 safe options for the second. So in total second rook has 64 X 49 = 3136 safe options such that first one doesn’t attack. The same applies whether black or white rook is placed first.
